Sania Mirza made an early exit from another grand slam tournament, another addition in the list which has been increasing for some time now. It’s the same story which is being repeated by her. Watch her play and one gets an impression of a player swelling with talent standing at the doorstep of success. But at the end of her game failure serves to be the bottom line of the story.
So, what ails Sania? Is she only good enough for two or three rounds of big grand slams? The promise and talent shown by her is getting negated by her failure to rectify her errors. This could happen only when she works on her other aspects of her game, primarily her serve. One would have to say that her first service during Wimbledon was bad, which made her a sitting duck to some gutsy hitting of her opponents. Apart from a weak serve, she needs to develop a strong backhand too. These two weapons in her armory couple with the fabulous forehand which she possesses would do her a world of good.
She needs to take some time off and work on her weaknesses else this ‘sorry’ story would keep repeating. Even the best of players and sportsmen find some shortfall in their game but their greatness lies in the fact that these players overcome the adversity by working on them. History is replete with examples, the most recent being Harbhajan Singh.
Sania needs to take some time off from international circuit and work on these aspects with her coach. Her potential and promise is worthwhile but the world does not remember shooting stars, it remembers the ‘pole star’.

The movie ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ gave its audience an impression of the impending disaster and doom awaiting makind. If we see the present state of affairs, we could say that we are heading in the same direction.
Numerous incidents and events bear a testimony to this. The recent floods in Barmer, the desert state of Rajasthan, India reveals a shift in the climatic patterns. Such a development is new, given Rajasthan’s past which seldom witnessed rains of such enormity. Even the deluge in Mumbai in the past two years has raised an eye brow or two. The city although received heavy rains but never of this degree which paralysed the lives as well as the administration of the state.
A recent report suggests the decay and rapid afforestation in the Amazon forest has reached a critical point. The issue needs to addressed in its utmost severity for the critical point of balance has been reached. Anymore damage would not only cost the South American continent but the entire world. The forests are the ‘lungs of the world’ and immediate attention needs to be drawn to this.
The climatic changes happening are not events that occur in isolation. Green house emission in China or US could have an impact on the the weather consditions of India or some other country.
Every imbalance caused in the nature has its repercussion in some part of the world and the ultimate loser is mankind and its denizens.
Numerous articles have been written and have become obscure. Its time to act now. Plant a tree, reduce petrol and other fuel consumption. Its upto us to do something..

The Indian cricket team is having a conditioning camp in Bangalore ahead of the tri-nation series.
The camp, again a secretive affair affair like its predecessor looks to polish the skills of individual players and at the same time get them going as a cohesive unit. Ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar too joins the camp which does not include the likes of Anil Kumble.
This camp looks to provide some impetus to the overseas campaign of the Indian cricket team. An attempt to help the team salvage some pride on foreign soil something that the team has been averse to doing!….
Willl this camp put the players in the right mode??

Imagine waking up in the morning, reading the same tabloid, doing the same ‘pile load’ of work at your office and heading back home at the end of the day. Doesn’t this sound monotonous and scary? Doesn’t this make you reflect as to what is your brain feeding on? Loads of habitual and regular thoughts and ideas?
One could draw a parallel with this to eating the same food every day. If you ignore the concept of a balanced diet, even a large quantity of food, won’t be enough to keep your body fit. You need a variety of food such as carbohydrate, protein, water, mineral, fats etc to fuel your body and give you the necessary energy so that you carry on all the activities and remain fit.
The same thing applies to mind. Your mind too needs diverse inputs such as a balanced diet in the form of good feelings, thoughts, emotions and new ideas. Every day you come across a lot of news items but do you read them? These different kinds of magazines and books provide you the diverse inputs which would keep your brain healthy. Not only books and magazines but even jokes and things transpiring around would also give you some leads. To top it on, there are crossword puzzles and tidbits. You need all this. You also need light reading materials to relax. All these constitute mental diet. You need to have this rich variety to keep your mind fit and energetic.
Just think what will happen if you take only junk food and starve yourself without healthy nourishment. You will not have the requisite energy to sustain your activity level. The same applies to your mind also. If you do not feed your mind with healthy thoughts and ideas, you will become mentally weak.
So, try to feed your mind with healthy thoughts and ideas by setting aside some to read every day. The content could comprise of good books and magazines even an autobiography of some one great every month. This will slowly build a definite set of ideas and keep your mind ticking!

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
–William Butler Yeats
Children are supposed to be the building blocks of a society. From time immemorial, children have been looked upon as the torchbearers of civilizations owing to their potential to mould the future. And education at any juncture plays a pivotal role in this process.
Education for a society forms its backbone to an extent. Irrespective of the medium, written or oral, it has always been considered of prime importance. What started in an oral fashion, gradually evolved to incorporate the written word. In the Indian society too education has seen a similar transformation, from oral which comprised of different modes like the Gurukul system to the present state which has a bit of both, written and oral.
With education coming to the fore as an important factor in shaping a child’s prospects, so have grown the standards in education. The ever increasing competition to filter the intelligentsia at the top has seen the competition among students rise to new heights.
In this scenario where the ‘survival of the fittest’ matters, every parent wishes to find his or her child at the top. The child is subjected to the grind of numerous tuitions and coaching apart from the regular academics. The parents assume this as a pre-requisite for a secure career for their child.
The pressure to succeed and tread a path their parents think apt for them has become the norm of the day. But in the whole process of securing a safe future for their child they forget his or her aspirations. The dream of a child gets silenced in the cacophony of competition and expectations.
