Bin Laden.. Lost and found!?

As the news regarding Osama Bin Laden’s death began to trickle in from different news sources, it stirred a hornet’s nest on the political as well as the diplomatic front.

Whereas the french foreign intelligence indicated the death of Bin Laden, Us and france did not confirm the same. These reports were also denied by some other coutries.

This is not the first time that Bin Laden has died. Reports of his death first surfaced in 2001 when a Pakistani Observer newspaper claimed that he had dies of a lung cancer.

Another set of reports followed in the year 2002 when Essam Darez, an Egyptian fewwlance writer who spent time with Bin Laden between 1986 and 1990 claimed that he could have been kiled by bombings in the caves of Afghanistan.

In an interview in 2004, the Pakistan president Musharraf said that intelligence services believed Laden to be dead. Although he called that an ‘assessment not a proof’.

Bin laden, the most wanted man by the US, still continues to elude the public eye and surveillance. Not only he continues to elude but also releases videos of his existence which makes puts one in a state of doubt.
Far from catching him, all that such rumours and unconfirmed reports from time to time do is to make him an enigma of sorts.

Australians champions of DLF cup…

Australians defeated Windies by a comprehensive margin and proved once again the kind of stuff they are made up of-Quality.

Although they began the tournament on a scratchy note, they quickly pulled up their bootstraps after their defeat at the hands of the West Indies. What followed thereafter was a well oiled unit performing ‘near optimally’.

Discipline is something that the Indian team needs to learn from the Aussies. Even when they were three wickets down in the final, they played in a disciplined manner and ensured that the team reached a safe position. Place this against the performance of the Indian team against the aussies in the qualifying match, and one gets a marked divergence between the two.

The Indians were cruising and all that was needed was some cool and disciplined performance. But the likes of Dhoni, ‘played the devil’, by playing shots which were completely uncalled for, just to satiate his aggresive instincts and live up to the reputation of being a ‘blaster’. One could say that individual laurels superceeded the team interests in this case and evetually India succumbed, a humiliating defeat.

Some bad team management decision such as playing unfit players like Yuvraj who failed to click as expected contributed even more to this overall downfall. If one puts this decision of playing unfit players against resting some one like a Gilchrist who is Austalia’s premiere batsmen & wicket keeper, as a part of their rotation policy, it clearly brings out the confidence of the management on the bench of the Australian team.

Although Gilshrist did not play the tournament, his place was taken by Brad Haddin who made an impression of sorts with the gloves and the bat.
So some poor decision, irresponsible approach and lack of discipline spelt Indian team’s nemesis and it lived upto its reputation of being a wooden sword during the hour of the need.
With Champions Trophy around the corner, the players needs to sort out their priorities and work cohesively as a unit. Players need to learn to adapt to situations and play as per the need of the hour which is something champions are made up of! A single Dhoni or Dravid would not be able to win India the Champions trophy!

We need team India and the earlier Indian team realises this the better…

Saved by elements..?

The Indians team showed what they are made of of inn today’s Australia Vs india cricket match- Uncertainity! This one thing draws a line and separates the champions from the commoners..

The team again put up an erratic bowling performance in the first half of the match. The seamers despite knowing waht was expected from them failed to maintain discipline and went for runs easily. One is made to wonder that if Australians could maintain a disciplined line, then why can’t the Indian seamers do the same?

The Australian attack made a mockery of the Indian batting line up by sending its top five batsmen back to the pavilion within 35 runs.

Time and again the Indians have been exposed, at times by bowling and sometimes by the star studded batting line up. Consistency is the order of the day and no better team to learn from than the Australians.

The team needs to introspect deeply on today’s forgetful performance. Unless players are held responsible and understand the errors they committed, ammends would be difficult and we would have to rely on elements time and again.

Indian cricket team defeated by elements..?

Indian cricket team lost to the West Indies in Kuala Lumpur despite having posted a healthy total of 309 runs. Some might call it an unfair result as Indians had 30 more overs to play for but the way things went about, there was not much to choose from.

Although the Indian batting clicked today with batting maestro Tendulkar hitting another ton in difficlut circumstances, it was the indisciplined bowling which cost India the match.

The Indians looked rusty in both bowling and fielding department. Despite being aware of the target and what was expected of them, the bowlers sprayed the ball all around and got punished by some hard carribbean hitting.

Pathan could not maintain a tight line and the same could be said of the other bowler RP Singh who was fortunate to have got the wicket of Chanderpaul ! Dhoni too played a part by spilling a couple of easy chances behind the stumps again raising doubts over his keeping skills.

Lack of discipline clearly showed in the Indian bowling. This casts considerable doubts in the minds of people making them wonder about the utility of the high profile cricket training camps which were held in complete secrecy prior to the tri nation tournament!

The bowling is slowly emerging as an achilles heel for the Indian cricket team. Irrespective of the the team posts, in the absence of a decent and disciplined bowling attack all efforts would be raised to the ground.

The coach and the captain need to chalk a strategy to ensure that the team sheds its rustiness and prepares to face an upbeat Australian side in a couple of days time.

And this time, even with the help of elements the team would fail if they do not sort out their basics such as bowling & fielding!

Indian Hockey at a crossroad….

Another disappointing performance by the Indian Hockey team with its defeat at the hands of South Korea sums up the story. The defeat not only sealed Indian team hopes but also reasserted the team’s lost sheen.

A string of inconsistent and pathetic performances in the World cup and other tournaments in the past has been the story for the Indian Hockey Team.

Well, shoddy is all one could say about today’s performance againt the Korean’s. Lack of a proper game plan, loose defence and an toothless attack became India’s undoing in today’s match. The team which had a 1-0 lead faltered in the closing moments as in the previous games and conceeded two goals to gift S.Korea the game.

The koreans despite a not ‘too great’ performance looked better students of the game. They created penalty corners at will by penetrating in the Indian defence. The two goals scored by the Koreans came from penalty corners.

The Indians on the other hand neither displayed lightning sitck play neither an astute game plan. They seemed to wait for opportunities to come their way unlike the Koreans who created opportunities and drowned the Indian Ship.

The India team seems to be far from its glorious past which saw the likes of Major Dhyanchand who mesmerized the world with his skills. Today, the sport in India is plagued with bureaucray at the management and administrative level along with lack of funds and proper infrastructure. The admnisitrative body of the game is governed by a tight leash which indicates absence of new thought or change.

Unless change comes about in the hockey governing body in India along with changes in the infrastructure such as more number of astroturf stadiums, better remuneration and coaching facility to players, the game will continue to suffer and the Indian hockey team will continue to bleed for many more years to come….

What do you say..?
