Blame Indian Cricket Coach Chappell..?

greg.jpgThe string of poor performance and some remarks by the Indian coach Greg Chapel have created a furore in India. Many people are asking for the head of the coach whom they hold responsible for the Indian team’s poor show.

But think for a minute. Can the coach be solely be blamed for this shoddy display? How far is the coach responsible in the team’s performance? What can he do if he is given a unit of eleven players in which the majority is incapable of playing in alien conditions?

sehwag-I.jpgAt this level, one cannot expect too much from a coach. I feel he should be seen as a guide and not someone who teaches players how to play in terms of technique. He can guide them and fine tune the their mistakes by bringing his experiance and toning down the inadequacies but expecting him to turn the squad upside down is too far fetched.

Tendulkar BattingMost of the players in the present Indian outfit have shown how ill at ease they are when it comes to playing the rising ball. Their batting style does not suit the South African pitches and as a result they are not able to score. Add to this their inexperiance in playing on pacer friendly conditions and the worries seem to be as tall as a mountain. All this has accrued to the team’s poor performance and in the light of these defeats the people in India are gunning for the coach.

The blame needs to be put on the BCCI too which has not laid the foundation to groom players who can play in such conditions. There are very few bowler friendly pitches in India as a result the batsmen don’t have the technique to play in fast pacy conditions against a quality pace attack overseas.

tendlya.jpgThe BCCI should prepare more fast and pacy tracks. This will ensure that in the time to come, more batsmen will be produced who are good at playing fast bowling instead of a handful like Tendulkar and Dravid.
Blaming the coach is not the answer to Indian cricket team’s performance. The reforms needs to be introduced at the grassroot level.

Only a tree with strong roots produces good fruits and withstands the severest of storms.

India steamrolled again @ Cape Town!…Nov’06

fans.jpgThe comments I received for the last post confirmed that cricket indeed dwells in the hearts of people across this country! But unfortunately truth is bitter and the truth is that the Indian team is ill equipped to match the South Africans in their backyard. They capitulated like a pack of cards in the first game and put on a similar performance in today’s match.

smith300300.jpgHaving set a total of 275, the entire team was wrapped up at 161. Electing to bat, the South African team was in all sorts of trouble with Zaheer Khan drawing first blood in the very first over with two blows. This downfall continued and at one point the Proteas were 76-6.

Kemp.jpg

As the saying goes that adversity tests the true charactar of champions, this was proven right by the home team which strung a couple of partnership and ensured a total of 275 was posted. In the process, the Indian bowlers were belted mercilessly in the final overs when each of them conceeded an average of 10 runs an over.

agarkar.jpgThe display of the Indian bowlers in the last ten overs gave a clear indication of what alien conditions means to them. They sprayed theharbhajan singh.jpg ball both sides of the wicket and failed to bowl yorkers which gave the batsmen enough opportunity to score. The experianced Ajit Agarkar and Zaheer Khan falied to apply themselves and bowl cleverly and eventually paid a very heavy price for their follies. Even Harbhajan Singh went for plenty and it rained runs !!
kaif.jpg

Any total in excess of 250 was going to be an uphill task for the Indian team. It meant that the team’s batting order had to click and one batsman had to play through the innings. But as one could have predicted Indian openers departed quickly and the same sorry tale began to unfold- one of helplessess.

The only positives for the Indiandhoni.jpg team was the innings of captain Dravid who again lived to his reputation of being the best batsmen in the team with proper technique. Dhoni for a change fired today and i felt the limelight shifted from his hair, style and fashion to his shots and cricket after a long time!

dravid.jpgRahul Dravid in this tour will be like a beacon, a lighthouse withstanding the storm. The thing to be seen is how far is this lighthouse able to show the way to the Indian ship which seems to be in a Bermuda Triangle, devoid of hope and faith.

With 2-0 down, the series is as good as over for the Indians. The only consolation would be to see how much pride the Indian team salvages in the reamining series and can it stand up to the challenge in the remaning matches ?

How India developed the SPACE STATION !! (Success Story)

In the early 1960’s …India was slowly awakening to the Space age….Although rest of the world was preparing to reach for the Moon…we were making our humble beginning…a small rocket took off from Thumba on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, announcing the birth of the modern space age in India. That was when the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS) formally came into existence. Over the years, TERLS have given birth to the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) and to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)…

Some Pics that will make every Indian proud…

Pics that say…we may not be as successful as the US or Russia…but we are there nevertheless…so watch out for us…

Indian cricket team mauled in Durban…Nov’06

sehwag2.jpgWatching Indians play at Durban against South Africa in the second one day cricket match, a thought kept recoccurring to me-Does the Indian cricket team play with pride?

The fears I had augured in the previous write up regarding Indian team that of being vulnerable on pacy and bouncy Nitini.jpgwickets overseas in South Africa came true and they lived up to theirreputation!!No batsmen barring the experainced Dravid and Tendulkar had the technique to hang in the centre and score runs against a decent bowling line up. What hurt even more was the fact that the Indian team had played seven batsmen and still crumbled for a score of under 100..howazzat!!
Having been set a target of 250 runs, the Indians surrendered meekly and was scuttled for 91 runs by the South African bowling lineup in what proved to be a comeprehensive defeat.

From what surfaced from yesterday’s encounter was the lack Nek.jpgof technique in younger team members to counter and the play the rising ball. Most of the wickets which fell were an outcome of some injudicious shot selection and lack of experiance. This coupled with the lack of application and feet movement made the players sitting ducks to some clinical seam and fast bowling.

The team would have to get its act together before the next match and show the x-factor -THE PRIDE in their performance against the Proteas if they wish to prove the records and history wrong!!

‘Minding’ small ideas!…

Ocean.jpgOur mind is like an ocean always occupied by different thoughts and ideas. Just think about it, have you ever for an instant ever stopped thinking on a problem / issue or topic? Well, I guess not and that pretty much brings out what I mean!

An ocean has innumerable forms of like and objects fish.jpgembedded in its waters. If there are beautiful small fishes and corals so exist predators like sharks but the ocean never gives a tumultuous appearance! Isnt it? It appears calm and from the exterior and only when one takes a plunge in it does he /she get a measure of what lies beneath! Our mind too has several ideas, memories and instances lodged in it. To unravel the depth, we need to have a similar thought process.

We simply cannot empty our minds completely and start thinking from the scratch. It calls for a great deal of control and resolve. One in a million people can empty all the content of the mind and take it to ‘zero’ level. It calls for an enormous amount of mind control and meditation.

However, we can make use of the ideas and thoughts that pop up in our mind. Knowingly or unknowingly, many water bubble.jpgthoughts and ideas come to our mind. But the deal with beautiful ideas is that they are squelched. ‘Squelching’ is what happens when a water bubble bursts with a small sound. Once the water bubble squelches, the beautiful bubble is gone leaving no sign of it. Similarly, some beautiful ideas just disappear leaving no trace of it. Like an ocean one should be wary that it is among the predators and big robust fishes that the small colourful and beautiful fishes exist!

But people who have achieved great things in life had a knack einstein.jpgof tapping the full potential of their mind. Einstein, it is said, would ponder as to what it would be like sitting on the top of a light beam. He would ponder as to in such a situation would he be able to see his own face! For a normal person such a thinking process will be absurd or foolish. But if Einstein had not thought in this way, we would not have seen the Theory of Relativity!

Geniuses stumble upon an idea, and work on the same. But we in our daily lives stumble upon such ideas and dismiss the same as useless. The geniuses develop this skill at a fairly young age.

Reasons could be many which lead us to this kind of a outlook, it could be the result of our education system which does not allow the students to think originally! They are encouraged to memorize and reproduce what they memorized without challenging any thing.

ideas.jpgCultivating thoughts is important but more important is harvesting them! It might happen that after sowing the thoughts, you might desert them on impractical ground but the same thought when harvested might revolutionize your life and the lives of those around you. So, look for the small ingenuous idea and nurture it.

So challenge, question and liberate your mind from the slavery of block thinking!
