India’s World Cup bandwagon hit an abrupt dead-end after a thorough thrashing at the hands of Sri Lanka in their last league match. No one in India was smiling. Their World Cup was over in eight days, their team had lost to Bangladesh, and had just been humiliated by Sri Lanka, that record 413 against Bermuda now just a pathetic joke. Except for a mathematical probability (see table on page 20), which comes into play only if rank outsiders Bermuda upset Bangladesh in their last league match, the 69-run defeat virtually means the end of road for India at the 2007 Caribbean carnival. - Indian Express, 25 March 2007

The clash between India and Sri Lanka would be of great importance for the Indian team for its fate lies hooked on the outcome of the match. If India win, then they go through to the Super 8 round but if they leave, then the team might as well take the next flight back home or the players could complete shooting commercials for some brands in the Caribbean!
The Indian team looks to have regained a part of form but might find Sri Lanka an tough opposition. If one has a look at
the performance of the Lankans then the convincing manner in which it thrashed the Bangladesh team, one might feel that the odds are stacked in favor of the Lankans but each game is a new story on its day and that is what makes One day cricket exciting.
Indian team’s concern could be its bowling department which
has looked innocuous even with the likes of Zaheer Khan and Munaf Patel. This
was evident in the match against Bermuda when they failed to rap up the tail of the Bermuda team. The attack seems to be lacking the sting and when compared to the Lankan attack the latter outclass the former on the field! With the likes of Malinga, Vaas and Muralitharan spearheading from the front others like Maharoof,Jayasuriya and Dilshan too can come in handy. As a result, the Lankan bowling attack looks more complete when compared to its Indian counterpart!

The batting departments of both the teams are evenly matched with major players from both sides firing in the previous games. I think it is going to boil down to the fact that the team which plays as a unit will win the contest. And for the now Sri Lanka would be certainly looking to leverage their winning form while India would be looking forward to making the most of the match or else it would mean curtains for the team!
