Cricket World Cup 2007- Team England

Team England

England is a side which has some stars in the ranks but couldmarcus.jpg be considered as one of the weaker sides in the competition. It would certainly rely on the efforts of these key players to steer the team through to a victory. The absence of Marcus Trescothick would certainly hurt the side as the left arm opener had proved to be match winner on many occasions in the past but the side has found Strauss who could replace Trescothick to some extent.
But given the conditions which are expected to be dry and the pitches which are going to be on the slower sides, teams fielding spinners could certainly fancy their chance against a team like England which is a bit vulnerable when it comes to playing spin bowling!

Team

Michael Vaughan (captain), Andrew Flintoff, Andrew Strauss, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Paul Collingwood, Jamie Dalrymple, Ed Joyce, Jon Lewis, Sajid Mahmood, Paul Nixon, Monty Panesar, Liam Plunkett, James Anderson.

Strengths- A decent batting order with allrounders
Weakness- Absence of quality seamers and quality one day international players

Core

Michael Vaughan
Michael Vaughan
A good opening batsman in the test matches, he has also been opening for the one day format without much success. He has been bogged down by injuries off late and is making a comeback as a result he might a bit short of match practice. A solid batsman, he could provide the start that could propel the team to a big total.

Andrew ‘Freddy’ Flintoff

freddy.jpg

The Goliath and the ‘Danny K’ of the English side, he is a one man army by himself. A brute with the willow, he can clear the boundary of any ground with ease with his power and timing. A good bowler he has the knack of bowling some crucial spells and picking up wickets.
Remove Flintoff from the English side and it appears to be a team of five or six members! I guess that says it all!

Kevin Pietersen

KP2.jpg

An exceptionally talented batsman and a safe fielder, Kevin Pietersen or KP as he is popularly known is one the most valued assets for the English team. An naturally aggressive batsman, he can take the attack to any opposition at will. A strong on side player, he likes to dominate the bowling attack by his stroke play and gifted timing.

Paul Collingwood
collingwood_paul.jpg
A solid middle order batsman, he is the anchor as far the English team is concerned. A lot would depend on the way Collingwood adapts and paces his innings in the competition. He is also a part time medium pace bowler which makes a very handy all rounder in the English side.

Monty Panesar
montypanesar2.jpg
The ‘find’ of the English team, Monty is the first Sikh to playpanesar.jpg for England. A supremely talented left arm spinner, he has shown that he can provide the breakthroughs at crucial junctures in the game with his loopy and turning deliveries. The long fingers of his left arm not only help him grip the ball better but also make his bowling make up for his not so great fielding.

James Anderson

anderson1.jpgRecalled to the English side, this youngster announced his arrival with lots of promise. Anderson bowls at a decent pace and swings the cricket ball both ways. His concern is the predictable nature of his bowling which makes him expensive during the end over despite his yorkers and good slower deliveries!

A decent team on paper, opposition would not worry too much againt England which could make them a dangerous side! On a given day, the side with its all stars could come down heavy but nevertheless a slightly weak team.

Coke going the milky way- brand overhaul..?

coke.jpg
Coke initiatives for the future could be looked upon as a classic case of Brand Overhaul.

coke can.jpg In the recently concluded All India Bottlers Meet in Bangalore Coke gave impressions of distancing itself from Carbonated Soft driks (CSD) in the future. Sounds surprising? Seems to be true, for, Coke has given hints of shedding its fizzy image not only in the US but also in India.

In the years to come, the fizz from the drinks would havecoke-1.jpg gone as the company is seriously considering overhauling its portfolio. The Company has begun to talk about Milk, milk based products, coffee based flavors, ice cream colas and Indianised drinks like Aam panna etc.

To make an impact, the company seems to be hurrying into things and looks to lauch a few products by this summer! The change in its portfolio could be due to the controversies that the company found itself mired in such as the pesticide and the Land water crisis in Kerala’s Palakkad district.

Coke seeks to combine carbonation in everything from ‘purified water to tea’ which is what is the aim of the company- to target the international markets and cause a reversal of fortunes for its stocks which have witnessed a lean phase in the past one year!

Cricket World Cup 2007- Team South Africa

team.gif

If there is one team which has been unlucky as far as winning the World Cup is concerned, then it is South Africa. Always radiating promise and potential, the Proteas have failed to win the cup despite fielding talented sides in the past. They were a stone’s throw away from winning the cup in 1999 when Gibbs put down the catch of Aussie Captain Steven Waugh and thence lost the semifinal match and the World Cup too!

The team for the 2007 World Cup has a good mix of aggressive talented and experienced players. They also have a good breed of fast bowlers like Ntini, Pollock and Nel who can pose threat to any batting line up in the tournament with their pace and discipline.

Team

Strengths- Aggressive batting, good allrounders and fine pace attack

Weaknesses- Lacks quality spinners and experience in the batting order

Core

Graeme Smith

smith.jpg

Captain Graeme Smith has emerged as a successful captain who has given the team many successful wins. Opening the innings he is a strong on side player and combines aggressive with some effective batting!

Herschelle Gibbs

gibbs.jpg
One of the most feared players, he can make a mockery of any total if he gets going. He exhibited his aggression in the famous 300 plus run chase against the World Champions Australia recently and set his team up for a memorable win. A strong off side player and a good puller of the ball, he is blessed with the gift of timing his shots.

Jacques Kallis

kallis.jpg

The anchor and mainstay of the South African batting line up, he is the most technically correct batsman in the South African batting order. His forte is his technique which not only lends solidity to his batting but makes him a very reliable player.

Makhaya Ntini

nitini.jpg Voted the most popular South African Cricketer, this man is full of energy both off the field and on the field. He has troubled many a quality batsmen around the world with his pace bowling. A natural athlete, he is one bowler to watch out in this World Cup.

Shaun Pollock

pollock.JPG

He is an old warhorse who torments the batsmen with his line and length bowling. He has dropped a couple of yards in pace but his impeccable and disciplined bowling troubles batsmen in the early overs. Experiance coupled with some smart thinking makes him a potent force in the Protean bowling attack.

Cricket World Cup 2007- team New Zealand

New Zealand Cricket team.jpg If we want a team that could upset the World Champions and give them a run for their money then it is got to be New Zealand! Probably the most underwritten side in the tournament, the Kiwis are one of the most competitive sides. Known for the sheer depth of talent, it won’t be fair to call their strike bowlers- all rounders!

Their recent performances against the World Champions reiterated the fact that they are a handful on any condition and against any team. Their two 300 hundred plus successful run chase against the Australians have given a fillip to theastke.JPG hopes and aspirations of the side which would go into the tournament without a key player- Nathan Astle who retired recently. Despite his absence, the team has foundfulton 2.jpg Ross Taylor and Peter Fulton who have shown great promise and have lent solidity to the batting lineup apart from instilling the faith in the team that they can win as a unit!

Team New Zealand

Stephen Fleming (captain), Daniel Vettori, Daryl Tuffey, Shane Bond, James Franklin, Peter Fulton, Mark Gillespie, Brendon McCullum, Craig McMillan, Michael Mason, Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Lou Vincent.

Strength- Athletic and electric fielding, Allrounders and aggressive approach
Weakness- Lack of experience in their batting line up

Core

Stephen Fleming

FLEMING_STEPHEN_CENTURY_ODI.jpg

A captain who has steered the ship through many a storm with his aggressive batting, he is one of the most respected captains who can marshal his resources through adversity in the coolest of manner and lead from the front with his bat.

Craig McMillan

mcmillan.jpg

A fighter to the core, this middle order batsman lends certain solidity to the batting order. Aggressive by nature he can adapt to conditions easily.

Lou Vincent

Lou Vincent.jpg

An electric fielder in the infield, he has been used to open the batting order off late with Captain Stephen Fleming. Known to take risks he also plays the role of a pinch hitter at the top of the order.

Scott Styris

styris.jpg

An all rounder he along with Jacob Oram brings in the variety in bowling and batting. Known to bat in the middle of the innings, he has played the role of anchor man on many occasions.

Daniel Vettori

vettori.jpg

One of the most experienced left arm leg spinners of our generation, this tall spinner brings a bag load of experience to the team. A decent turner of the cricket ball, he has guile and deceit in equal proportions which makes him a very effective one day spinner!

Shane Bond
bond.jpg

The name’s Bond, Shane Bond! Well, this cop turned cricketer is pace personified which is reflected in the number of batsmen who have fallen prey to his pace bowling. He lends ‘bite’ to the Kiwi attack and has transformed the Kiwi pace attack which was predominantly seam prone in the past decades. Bond bowls at a healthy pace and possess a great deal of control over his bowling which makes him highly effective. Certainly an exciting bowler to watch for!

The Kiwis are tough competitors who would give any opposition a real tough time. A good blend of batsmen, fielders and bowlers makes them a cohesive unit, a unit that is capable of pulling up a surprise even during adversity!
