Australia Champions of one day cricket!..World Cup’07

gilly-on-fire.jpg

Australia beat Sri Lanka and lifted the coveted World Cup, in a rain curtailed match. It rained boundaries and sixes in a match that saw the sheer agression of one man- Adam Gilchrist. His innings, the highest total by an invidual in a world cup final encounter made mince meat of the Lankan bowlers.

gilly2.jpg

Aussies won the toss and chose to bat and from the startgillyhaydos.jpg their innings had steam and impetus. The openers began a bit cautiously but after the 10th over, they cut loose and in particular it was Gilly who murdered the Lankans. He batted furiously and provided the world one of the most memorable aggressive knocks scoring 149 priceless runs of just 109 balls. Once he picked up the tempo, the run rate for the Aussie innings hovered around the 7 runs per over mark, something that was carried forward even after he departed from the crease.

crowd.jpg

A look at his wagon wheel showed that he had scored all around the park, both the on side and off side. He hit 8 sixes with supreme power and great ease, which brought the crowd to its feet. He provided some fabulous entertainment to all those watching the match by hitting a boundary in almost every over!

lanka-bowlers.jpg

He was ably assisted by skipper Ponting who too scored a 37 lanka-bowlers-down.jpgruns in good time. But to be frank, it was all in all THE GILCHRIST SHOW! As for the Lankans bowlers, they didn’t have too much to take from their effort, which lacked planning and discipline. Gilchrist got away because the Lankans gave him the room to swing his arms and go for the big hits. They failed to apply to the situation and even their experainced bowlers were ‘tonked’ to the boundary. Barring Lasith Malinga, all the Lankans bowlers had a forgetful day in office with over 6 runs per over run rate against their names!

The launch the Gilly gave the Aussies helped them reach a total of 281 runs in just 38 overs, a tall total for any team in the World.

sanath3.jpg

The Lankans came out with a positive intent and showedkumar-sangakkara.jpg some promise with their attacking batting. Even though Tharanga departed early, Kumar Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuriya played some delightful strokes to be within striking distance of the target. Jayasuriya scored 63 runs of just 67 deliveries while Sangakkara scored 54 off 52 deliveries. Jayasuriya’s knock had 9 peerless boundaries in it while Sangakkara hit 6 boundaries and a towering six.

clarke-get-sanath.jpg

But Lankans always stayed behind the scoring rate which kept rising all along. And to add to their miseries, Jayasuriya departed at the wrong time, leaving behind a vacuum which was not filled by the lower order that followed. He lost his cool and was clean bowled by Michael Clarke. Sangakkara too followed soon as the rains interrupted the proceedings. The match was further reduced to 36 overs and from then on, it began to slip away from the Lankans. They resigned to the fact that the blows and wounds inflicted by Gilchrist were just too deep for them to recover and fight back. So, resignation to the greater truth of defeat was what Sri Lankans did as they were left with no other alternative! The Aussies deserved to win, they deserved to be the Champions. The way they play their cricket, the way they train and the way they compete, they deserved hands down to win the Cup.

The cup saw Glenn McGrath, one of the greatest bowlers of our generation bidding adieu and he got the best send off he could have imagined- the Man of the Series honor of the tournament!

As Napolean said ” Victory belongs to the most persevering”, it is not a streak of brilliance but an ever glowing radiance that Champions are made of and Australia fits into this description. Well done mate!

Booming Social Networking in INDIA

Social Community Network - India

Seeing the spurt in the number of Social Networking sites in India, we decided to figure out the reasons that have led to this boom.

Here’s what we found:

1. What is the feature of this Social Networking?

Social networking is important as far an individual’s personal and professional development is concerned. You can meet with people with like minded interest both in your personal and professional sphere of life. No matter where these people are located, internet and social networking sites help you connect with them easily nowadays!

2. Why is everyone is coming up with their own social networking?

Social networking sites are mushrooming off late with a new site getting registered every second day! One of the reason for this rapid mushrooming could be the increase in the awareness levels of Netizens around the world. The other major reason could be the idea of being linked with different people at the same time on both professional and personal interests!

3. Is there any site which gives different services than a general Social Networking site do?

If one takes a look at the top social networking sites then one would find that the services provided by them are pretty much the same and few. They primarily involve creating profiles of individuals and helping them getting linked with others sharing similar interests. All sites provides the general facilities that include writing blogs, bookmarking, music and videos, news, forums and groups.

4. Are Social networking sites for mere fun?

Many top socilal networking sites provide an avenue for people to find partners for chatting, flirting and dating. Their main purpose is to provide means to people to get ‘linked’ on a personal or social basis. The majority of them cater to the networking needs of the users and provide them with this facility only.

There are very few networking sites which provide all round services to users apart from the networking.

5. Is this the best way to make good friends and share the knowledge in their respective areas of expertise?

Yes, the primary purpose that comes to the fore of these channels is making friends across the world and get networked. Being at the right time at the right place to take the right opportunity requires a person to be networked well and that is where such Networking social sites come in handy!

7. And now Reliance is also coming up with its own social network site called BigAdda.com, is that going to be a different from all the other sites?

The bubble is social networking is slowly becoming so huge that even Reliance is launching its own version. It will look to rope in the advantage it has gained from its Telecom segment and introduce feature which will give Reliance Telecom users advantage.

8. By all this what is our new generation, few people are fed up with the Invitations they receive daily from different sites? Are people are really showing interest in it?

With some many sites sprouting, people have too many choices for the same type of service that they are being provided. What lures them is the entire idea of being a part of the larger community of their own type of people! But in the process of mere ’social’ networking, they overlook other aspects with the people they link.

That is where a site like snehaH.com or MingleBox.com comes in handy for individuals get to see an ‘all round’ persona of individuals they link up with in terms of their choice!

We have compiled this list based on the rankings of these social networking sites provided by Alexa.

Judgement Day-World Cup final’07

world-cup.jpg

Finally the Judgment day has arrived in this World Cup. The showdown between two former champions for which they have been eagerly waiting for almost a month’s time! Tomorrow on the 28 of April, two cricketing giants Australia and Sri Lanka and will clash for the Cup in what is being anticipated as a Clash of the TITANS!

Australia would look to carry forward their winning stretch and win the Cup for the third time in a row and create history. West Indies tried to do that by winning it in 1975 and 1979 but they were halted by India in 1983. If the same logic is used then Sri Lanka, another former champion from the Sub continent should end up spoiling the party for the Aussies. But the form that Australia is in, it looks tough!

Australia

team-australia.jpg

They are the only team in this competition to have had a 100% win record. They have performed as a team in all departments and have a side that looks virtually invincible. But having said that, no team has challenged or stretched the Aussie team till now. No team has put the World Champions under any pressure as a result it has been a cakewalk for them.

Batting

hayden.jpg

Their batting has struck some good form with Hayden, watson.jpg Ponting, Symonds and Watson all scoring runs. Haydon and Ponting look in fine knick and if one of them arrives at the party, then it would mean a tall total for the Lankans.

The weak link for me in the Aussie batting order would be their middle order which has not been exposed to pressure till now. Michael Hussey muralitharan.jpgand Bradd Hodge have not spent quality time in the middle as has Symonds. So, if the side loses quick wickets at the top, the match could become exciting. With Lankans playing Murali, he could make the batsmen dance to his tunes with some foxy off spin coupled with the doosra.

Bowling

mcgrath1.jpg

shaun-tait.jpgThe bowling has looked awesome with ‘Pigeon’ McGrath striking some crucial blows at the top in the big games! He has been able complemented by Shuan Tait who’s performance has looked patchy with regard to his economy rate but his pace bowling is the one that has brought him and the team much success. He has brought in the element of fear with his fast pace, swing and yorkers that has beaten many batsmen in this tournament.

Another advantage which the side has got is the spin options. There are players like Clarke and Symonds who can roll their arm and bowl some effective off spin apart from the regular spinner Brad Hogg who has looked in some great form. His wrist spin has proven effective and even now batsmen fail to pick up the chinaman delivery of his!!

Sri Lanka

mahel-good.jpg

Sri Lanka has everything that is required to upset a team like Australia. Their team is well balanced, they have a good batting order that has produced runs and their bowling attack has depth. So, in terms of the respective departments they are evenly matched with the Aussies.

Batting

jayasuriya.jpg

The team hasn’t had regular performers but every time some player has arrived to the party in the side. If it wasmahela.jpg Tharanga on one occasion then in the Semi finals it was Jayawardene who took on the mantle of scoring runs. All the batsmen have on one ocassion or other scored runs so it would proper to say that they are amongst runs. But to point the needle at one or two batsmen for tomorrow’s encounter would be difficult. My man for sure would be Mahela Jayawardene whose form has begun to peak at the right time. One cannot rule out the like of Jayasuriya, Tharanaga or Sangakkara for that reason. It could be any one of these batsmen scoring tomorrow although the chances of Sangakkara making it big are more, owing to his technique and temperament.

Bowling

malinga.jpg

The bowling department has been led by two pacers- vaas.jpgChaminda Vaas and Lasith ‘viper’ Malinga! Vaas has created trouble with his swing and Malinga with his pace. Frankly, world cricket needs more Malingas, Shane Bonds and Brett Lees to make the game more exciting to watch. Malinga’s unconventional action has made it difficult for the batsmen to pick him up and given the right conditions, he could be unplayable on his day!

muralithaarn2.jpgThe spin department has the evergreen Murali who would look to create trouble for the Aussie batsmen with his spin. If the wicket ends up being a dry one, then Murali would be more than lethal with his turn and bounce on the surface.

TOSS

The toss will be vital for both teams as the conditions could govern the fate of the game as we saw in both the semi-final games.

Both sides are well placed for this final showdown and I feel Australia would have a slight advantage going into this match with the experience of handling pressure. But one cannot rule out the Lankans who can give the Aussies a run for their money on any day.

All in all- the judgement day cometh on 28 April.. so don’t miss it!

Australia thrash South Africa, enter Finals- World Cup’07

aussies-celebrate.jpg

Australia came up with another brilliant performance to beat South Africa comprehensively in the second semi-final clash at St. Lucia on 25 April. The match was a one sided contest with Australia dominating all departments of the game-bowling, batting and fielding. But having said that, The South Africa failed to lift their game for the big occasion and were scuttled in an ignominious manner by the Aussies!

smith-bowled.jpg

South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first, a decision many thought was bold and aggressive! But the team failed to stand by that decision. Opening the batting, Captain Graeme Smith on who rested the responsibility of leading the assault got out early in what I would call a ’silly’ shot in the context of the game. In a semi-final taking a risk of that nature in the early overs when the ball is swinging is a near suicide and Smith committed that cleanly with no regrets! He stepped down the track to Nathan Bracken who made the ball swing in the air and go away from Smith who missed the line completely and got his stumps knocked over.

mcgrath1.jpg

Then came Kallis, the man who was looked upon to weather the storm. He looked calm to begin and played a couple of good shot before succumbing to a stupid and impetuous shot! After having struck a boundary by giving charge to McGrath, he stepped down the track in very next ball and tried to play the same shot. In the process, he was clean bowled!

shaun-tait.jpgAfter that the Proteas never seemed to recover as the Aussies ‘choked’ them nicely with some brilliant display of disciplined bowling. Both Shaun Tait and Glenn McGrath proved too hot for the South Africans who buckled under their line and length bowling!

kemp.jpg

It was only Herschelle Gibbs and Justin Kemp who played a good knock of 39 and 49 runs respectively as others like Boucher, Prince Hall and Pollock got out to single digit scores! The South African team was bundled out for a mere 149 runs in 44 overs.

The Aussies got a hiccup early on in their innings as the lost Gilchrist who was bowled by Langeveldt for 1 but ‘Haydos’ Hayden and skipper Ponting settled all the remaining nerves for the Aussies. Hayden made 40 while Ponting made 22 from just 25 deliveries.

team-australia.jpg

Australia won the match inside 31 overs losing just 3 wickets. The semi-final turned out to be an anti-climax as all the expectations of the fans and the viewers were razed to the ground with a horrendous and atrocious performance by South Africa who justified their title of ‘chokers‘ by yesterday’s performance to some extent!
