India needed to win its fixture against Sri Lanka to confirm their place in the finals of the Asia Cup on Sunday. All eyes were on the encounter which one could say turned out to be a one sided affair when one looks at it in the hindsight.
Batting first the Lankans posted 308 for the loss of eight wickets in the match. It was another 300+ total in the tournament which has witnessed a slew of 300+ scores. The Lankan team was well placed for a score in excess of 300 but were restricted to 307 by the Indian bowlers as they lost steam towards the end of their innings. India, after being humbled in the recently concluded one day series by World Champions Australia, came out with a stellar performance in the one off 20-20 match on Saturday and defeated them comprehensibly by 7 wickets. With this they extended their undefeated run from the 20-20 World cup and reiterated their dominance on this format of the game. A speeding Blueline bus mows down a group of people crossing a road in South Delhi, killing five women and a man (Updated: and a child). Eight others, including some who were crossing the road, were injured when the bus ran into a crowd while trying to overtake a stationary Delhi Transport Corp (DTC) bus from the wrong side at Aali Goan, near Badarpur. Sunday’s accident takes the number of people killed by the rampaging Blueline buses in the capital this year to 93.- Hindustan Times, 7 October 2007
