Indian triumph in Calypso

India tour of West Inidies

India defeat Windies in the final test and claim the seires 1-0

Indian cricket team ended a prolonged drought of an away series win by emerging victorious in the fourth and the final test of the Caribbean tour. Having scuttled out the Windies for a paltry total of 103, India set the hosts a target of 269 to achieve. But the hosts faltered despite a solid batting lineup including the likes of Lara, Chanderpaul, Samuels, Gayle and Sarwan. Kudos to some terrific bowling by the Indian spinners and seamers, the task was aided by a deteriorating pitch.

The match saw some class acts from Indian captain with the bat who scored back to back half centuries and to back this effort was some world class spin display by the ‘turbanator’ and ‘Jumbo’ Kumble who ripped apart the Windies batting lineup.

India’s series win in Caribbean comes after 31 years, the last happened by a team which was lead by Ajit Wadekar and had the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Eknath Solkar, Salim Durrani, Bedi, Venkatraghavan and Prasanna.

One would have to compliment the Indian captain for having marshaled his resources in the best possible manner and also setting an example for the entire team by scoring heavily with the bat. Rahul ‘the wall’ Dravid, as he his popularly known for his gritty perseverance, determination and concentration, which has seen him produce innings on foreign soil and an enviable average of 59 in test matches. His exemplary batting display in this series including his Goliath effort in the last match won him the Man of the Series award, while the man of the match award went to Kumble for his splendid spell.
