Batting first, Mumbai Indians came out with an aggressive frame of mind and tore apart the bowling attack comprising of the likes of Ishant Sharma and Ashok Dinda. It won’t be wrong to say that the two veteran openers were in a demolition mode and dealt in boundaries. Sachin Tendulkar scored 68 while Jayasuriya scored 52 in their 127 run historic partnership for the first wicket. Jayasuriya’s  knock included two four’s and 4 sixes while Tendulkar hit six magnificient boundaries coupled with 4 sixes. The six boundaries included a classic improvisation shot which saw the ball race to the boundary behind the keeper and a ferocious pull shot!Harbhajan too produced a cameo with two towering sixes and a cumulative effort saw the team put up a daunting total of 188 for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kolkata Knight Riders never looked like winning the contest. The team didn’t get off to a good start with Gayle perishing for 12. The top scorer for the team was Saurav Ganguly who scored 34 and the next best was 24 runs scored by Brad Hodge. The match was virtually over within the first ten overs and the rest was a mere formality if one could say.

All said and done, it was Tendulkar and Jayasuriya’ day and one could say that with this form, it would be fireworks in the matches to come from Mumbai Indians!
