Google Insights – A new tool for understanding search

Google Insights Search

Google has come up with another application called “Insights for Search“. As the name suggests the application deals with information regarding search keywords. What the application actually does is that when provided terms, it shows the search volume for the keywords entered from 2004 to the present. The frequencies are displayed on the world map depending on the volumes in each part of the world for the respective keywords.

What is on offer from Google Insights?
As mentioned, it shows the volume of searches for a particular keyword. So, to check out how the application works, “Long Tail” was entered in the search bar.

The first set of information that appears is Search Volume where the information is displayed in a graph with numbers on the graph on the left side. The x-axis has Time whereas the Y-axis comprises search volumes. “The numbers on the graph reflect how many searches have been done for a particular term, relative to the total number of searches done on Google over time. They don’t represent absolute search volume numbers, because the data is normalized and presented on a scale from 0-100; each point on the graph is divided by the highest point, or 100.”

The right side has a list of topics that provide matter which pertains to the keyword, in the case being “Long Tail” that ranges from a copy of the book to Q&A.

The next in the series of information provided is Search volume for the keyword-based on
Regional Interest

So, who stands to benefit from it? It helps those who are on the content creation side as well as the advertisers who get the category-wise results as well as results for keywords that are showing greater volumes. The application could be said to be on the lines of “Trends” which is a little complicated to understand and not that well laid out.

Maybe this is the reason that Google came up with Insight, which enables easy comprehension for the user and the advertiser. It might be possible that the two might be merged in the future as mentioned in one of the blogs.

Perhaps somewhere Google realized that it is not providing information, but providing information out of which more people can make sense easily!
